Choir COVID-19 Safety Protocols
If your chorister is diagnosed with COVID-19, inform choir staff immediately and do not attend rehearsl!
In accordance with the new CDC guidelines for COVID-19, NCBC has adopted the following protocols:
If you were exposed to the virus that causes COVID-19 or have been told by a healthcare provider or public health authority that you were exposed, here are the steps that you should take, regardless of your vaccination status or if you have had a previous infection:
- Begin wearing a mask immediately and continue to wear a mask for 10 days.
- Watch for symptoms and, if you develop symptoms, get tested immediately.
- As long as you are symptom free, you may attend rehearsals.
If you test positive, please stay home for a minimum of 5 days. To return to rehearsals, you must be symptom-free for 48 hours without the aid of medications and continue to wear a mask until 10 days after testing positive.
All of our staff and each family will be given the option to decide whether or not they and/or their children will continue to wear masks at choir rehearsals.
Achieving high levels of COVID-19 vaccination among eligible choristers as well as staff and household members is one of the most critical strategies to help the choir safely resume full operations. Vaccination is currently the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic. People who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are at low risk of symptomatic or severe illness, including hospitalization or death. A growing body of evidence suggests that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are also less likely to have an asymptomatic infection or transmit COVID-19 to others than people who are not fully vaccinated. In most settings, people who are fully vaccinated can safely resume activities they did before the pandemic.
If choristers would prefer to wear a mask during rehearsal, masks that are specially designed for singing have been shown to work best. Such a mask is designed to make it easier to breathe and to hear yourself sing. A good singing mask that choristers have used in the past can be purchased online from https://www.broadwayreliefproject.com/singersmask. Most choristers will need a child-sized concert black mask, but adult-sized masks are also available if necessary.

Get INvolved
Chaperone and Volunteer
As an arts organization, the North Carolina Boys Choir and Girls Choir depends daily upon the many parents, grandparents, step-parents and siblings who volunteer their time and energy in support of the Choir. Volunteers provide important services to the Choir and our talented kids each year. From providing support at rehearsals and concerts to chaperoning tours and trips; from carpooling with other choir members to performance photography and videography; from helping us to translate our ads and PSA announcements to the many languages spoken by the choristers’ families to helping us to recruit talented kids at your local schools, from maintaining our website and social media presence to spreading a good word about the Choir around your local communities. Parents, let us know what your talents are, and we will find ways in which you can volunteer and help.
For accountability purposes, the choir requires one designated parent/guardian representative that is not on the choir staff to be present with the children at every rehearsal.
That rehearsal chaperone must abide by the choir COVID-19 safety protocols. The chaperone must remain at the venue for the entire rehearsal and primarily attend to the church door, opening it for choristers as they arrive. The choir does not have permission to unlock the church doors or to prop them open, so it is important that we have someone present to help with this. The chaperone may also provide help with any small chorister needs during rehearsal (such as facilitating bathroom visits or handing out sheet music) so that the directors do not need to take time away from rehearsal.
If you have volunteered for a rehearsal, please notify the directors when you arrive that you are the chaperone for that rehearsal. To ensure proper coverage, each chorister should plan to have a parent/guardian volunteer to be a chaperone at least twice throughout the semester.
