Christmas Concert 2017

The North Carolina Boys Choir Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and Training Choir; and the North Carolina Girls Choir Prima Choir and Training Choir invite lovers of Christmas Carols and Holiday Classics to join them at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 82 Kimberly Drive, Durham, Monday evening, December 18, 7:00 p.m.

The choirs will perform a mix of Christmas Carols from around the world with arrangements by Adam, Britten, Handel, Rutter, Willcocks; and Holiday Classics including: The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire); The Little Drummer Boy; O Tannenbaum; This Christmastide; O Holy Night; Hallelujah Chorus.

The North Carolina Boys Choir was founded in 1972 as the Durham Boys Choir by William Graham and designated the North Carolina Boys Choir in 1983 by then-Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. Through the years the Choir has sung with all the area’s major choral groups such as the Duke Chapel Choir, Choral Society of Durham, Choirs of Meredith and NCSU and Chapel Hill Voices. They have also sung with the N.C. Symphony Orchestra in the Christmas Pops Concert and the War Requiem.

The Choir has appeared on a number of area TV specials including “Christmas at the Governor’s Mansion” and “North Carolina People with William Friday.” The Choir tours nationally and internationally and has presented concerts in churches and cathedrals in Canada, England, and Scotland. In summer 2014, the Choir sang at Carnegie Hall in New York City. May 2017, the Choir was featured at the Spoleto Festival, Charleston, SC. The North Carolina Boys Choir is under the direction of Robert Unger and David Cole. We are pleased and honored to sing this concert in the marvelous acoustic space at St. Stephen’s Church.
